World’s biggest Easter egg hunt returns to London
Kids TV favourites and top artists join in The Lindt Big Egg Hunt in the run up to Easter 2013
The Lindt Big Egg Hunt, the world’s biggest Easter egg hunt, is returning to London on the 22 March until Sunday 7 April, raising money for Action for Children. Over 100 giant Easter eggs will be hidden in and around the streets of Covent Garden, making it an ideal family activity for the Easter period.
It’s not all about the eggs though and there’s a packed week of activities, including a chance to meet some of the country’s best loved children’s characters including, Ben 10’s Humungasaur, SpongeBob, Dora the Explorer, The Fat Controller from Thomas the Tank Engine, and Peppa Pig. Children can hop on board the Moshi Monsters Bus which will have Buster Bumblechops on board. If that’s not enough, there’s even a slide running from the top of the bus to the bottom so that kids can have as much fun getting out as they did going in!
So far the hunt has travelled across the country, stopping at Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool all to raise money for Action for Children. The two and-a-half-foot high fibreglass eggs have been designed by leading artists and designers including Sam Taylor-Johnson (formerly Taylor-Wood), Alexis Harding, Billy Childish and Michael Petry – and feature Peter Rabbit, Peppa Pig, Moshi Monsters, SpongeBob SquarePants, Thomas the Tank Engine and Ben 10.
The hunt captured the imagination of the country last year when it landed in London for six weeks – setting two Guinness World Records, raising over £1 million for charity and engaging more than one million people.
This year, for even more magic and family fun, Lindt will be rewarding busy hunters by giving out thousands of Lindt Gold Bunnies and Lindor truffles – delicious reasons to join in the egg hunting fun.
All money raised from the hunt will go directly to Action for Children, which works directly with more than 250,000 children, young people, parents and carers each year and run more than 600 services across the UK.
Action for Children’s Chief Executive, Dame Clare Tickell, said: “The Lindt Big Egg Hunt is a magical event for families, locals and tourists alike to enjoy the age-old Easter egg hunt tradition – on a huge scale and with a modern twist, as a giant exhibition of modern art. It’s an incredible way to bring people together in a spirit of fun and adventure while raising money for some of the most vulnerable children across the country.”
Annabelle Delorme, Marketing Director at Lindt added: “We are delighted to be supporting Action for Children with The Lindt Big Egg Hunt, a great way to raise money for this very worthy charity. Lindt believes in the magic of families which is why the iconic Lindt Gold Bunny will be hopping across the UK to help out busy hunters, offering up tasty treats and fantastic chocolate prizes. So hop down to the event, have some fun and help support this fantastic cause.”
The Lindt Big Egg Hunt is also supported by location sponsor Network Rail and official carrier FedEx. Network Rail has designed a special egg, and has provided visitor information on the Lindt Big Egg Hunt at a major station in each host city.
FedEx have provided a state of the art double-decker articulated lorry to transport the valuable eggs from city to city. They have also provided two of their most experienced drivers to make sure the eggs have arrived at each location in pristine condition.
Hunters can find out more about the individual eggs and their artists, bid for them in an online auction and enter a grand competition via mobile phone – for a chance to win 100 prizes of a year’s supply of Lindt chocolate. Egg Hunters are also invited to text the word EGG to 70123 to donate £3 to Action for Children.
To enter the grand competition, hunters have to find the special Humpty Dumpty egg and follow instructions on his plinth. One lucky winner will be chosen each day from a random draw to win a year’s supply of delicious Lindt chocolate, to share with friends and family. One hundred years’ worth of chocolate has to be won so get busy hunting.
